Alhaji Sani Danmasani, National Vice Chairman, Northwest, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), claims the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, is not its leader in Kano State or nationwide.
The explanation was provided by Danmasani in a statement on Monday.
He clarified that Kwankwaso, who had long since been expelled from the NNPP, and members of his Kwankwasiya Movement were not returning as a result of Gov. Ahmed Yusuf’s departure from the party.
One of our national leaders was Yusuf. Together with the National Working Committee (NWC), which is managed by Dr. Agbo Major, we are led by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, our founder and chairman of the Board of Trustees.
“It is surprising that most of the media houses in Nigeria are still referring to Kwankwaso as the leader of the NNPP, a party he betrayed and is still trying to hijack as an expelled member.
“Kwankwaso and others, including Dr. Ahmed Ajuji and Elder Buba Galadima, have been expelled from the NNPP. We have advanced material evidence to educate and enlighten media practitioners.”
“Aside from the decision of the party through internal disciplinary measures to have expelled them , the Abia State High Court and Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, confirmed their expulsion legally.”
According to him, the Abuja Court imposed an enrollment order, preventing INEC from dealing and conducting any business with Kwankwaso and the Ajuji-led NWC, until the outcome of an ongoing Judicial Review.
“The issue of INEC server holding their names are mere administrative lapse.
“The upload of Major and Mr Oginni Olaposi (National Secretary) will be done as soon as INEC finishes with its administrative procedures and the judiciary review.
He pointed out that INEC, as a regulatory organization, has no say over who joins or leads a political party.
“We hope that the media will assist us by ceasing to identify Kwankwaso as the NNPP leader.
Unless a higher court sets it aside, a court’s order must be followed.
“In this time of political discussions and realignments, this clarification has become essential to ensure that our sister political parties are not misled or confused.
“We, therefore, wish to encourage politicians with honour and integrity to feel free to join us and stop being scared of assumed differences, as they would be resolved soon.”
