Jack Grealish, a winger for Everton, is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a fractured foot, which seriously jeopardizes his chances of qualifying for the World Cup.
Grealish, who is currently on loan from Manchester City, is expected to have surgery after sustaining a stress fracture during Everton’s 1-0 victory against Aston Villa on January 18.
Everton manager David Moyes told reporters on Friday, “We think he’s probably going to need surgery, but that’s still not absolutely confirmed, but it probably rules him out for the rest of the season.”
“The player, the club, and all of us here are extremely disappointed.”
“He’s such an important part, he’s a big character, big experience for us. We shall miss him. He has done a lot of amazing things for us.
Grealish’s last England cap was against Finland in October 2024, but he was back in the running for the World Cup thanks to his superb Everton performance.
He spoke with England boss Thomas Tuchel after Everton defeated Manchester United in November.
He is now unlikely to be healthy enough to participate in the competition, which is set to start on June 11 in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
With two goals and six assists in 20 Premier League games, Grealish has been flourishing at Everton.
After a dismal stint at City, when he lost favor with manager Pep Guardiola, the 30-year-old seemed to be returning to peak form.
When asked if Grealish’s injury would make it more difficult for him to permanently join Everton, Moyes responded that it was “far too early” to talk about the former Aston Villa star’s long-term goals.
