The tentative schedule for the 2026 Anambra State Local Government primary elections has been made public by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The party said the schedule was approved in accordance with the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) schedule and the APGA’s constitution in a statement issued in Awka on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara.
According to the schedule, from January 27 to February 6, the Awka Regional Secretariat will sell and return Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
It further stated that candidates for chairmanship and council will be screened from February 7 to February 11 in 326 wards and 21 local government districts.
The timetable states that ward congresses to choose council candidates and ad hoc delegates are scheduled for February 14, while appeals from the screening process will be decided on February 13.
It said, “The chairmanship primary election will take place on February 15 and the appeals arising from the primaries will be handled on February 16, all in Awka.”
The APGA set the price of the chairmanship and councillorship forms at N6 million and N600,000.00, respectively, emphasizing that women and people with disabilities would be responsible for half of these costs.
The party further stated that dates were still subject to change and that all fees were non-refundable.
Additionally, it strongly advised prospective candidates to adhere to its election procedures and the specified criteria.
